A City Woven With Stories
The Ōtautahi Christchurch city narrative was developed in 2023, with the city brand logo a core element of the identity. The Ōtautahi Christchurch city narrative was developed in 2023, with the city brand logo a core element of the identity.
Developed by a team of three local creatives, the design is a monogram based on the leading characters of the names ‘Ōtautahi and Christchurch’. The ‘O’ and ‘C’ letterforms come together in balance, representing the way in which the Ōtākaro Avon River winds through the heart of our city.
This is brought to life through elements of a traditional Māori carving design — haehae — the chiselled lines that are cut parallel in whakairo. The haehae form the banks of the river and represent the duality of Ōtautahi, including the city’s Māori and European heritage.
