Our Port Hills are one of the city’s gems, and in autumn there’s no better place to explore. So here’s your Port Hills checklist for autumn:
Puff up Rapaki
It’s the track that everybody raves about, but the one you may not have been to yourself. Discover the Rapaki Track nestled in the Port Hills at the top you’re greeted with beautiful views of Lyttelton Harbour and Christchurch city.
There are plenty of short tracks around the Summit Road that lead to gorgeous sunsets, so take a blanket and some snacks if you’re into chasing the sunset!
Find your zen at the Sign of the Takahe
Another spot to explore is the Sign of the Takahe which boasts panoramic views of the city at the Cashmere Hill lookout. On a clear day there’s no better place to sit in the warm sun with a coffee in hand. The Sign of the Takahe is also a historic building, made from tools and materials that were locally sourced in Canterbury almost 70 years ago.
Explore the tracks at Victoria Park
Not far up the road is Victoria Park which boasts nine walking tracks, a playground and a designated dog park. It’s the perfect location to explore and a great spot to picnic with family and friends.
Get the blood pumping at Christchurch Adventure Park
Christchurch Adventure Park is the place to be if you’re hungry for adventure. Zipline down the valley or mountain bike through the trails, which are suited for both beginners and experts.
Give something back
Try something new and make a positive difference to the environment by volunteering in the Port Hills. Christchurch City Council, along with several community organisations run regular working bees and planting days, visit the council website for more details.
Explore it all
From walking tracks to adventure parks, explore your beautiful backyard this autumn – there’s something for everyone.
