Zen Sushi and Dumplings
With doors surrounded by ivy, you know you’re onto something special when you walk through the doors of Zen Sushi & Dumplings. The food is beautifully presented in recyclable cardboard boxes - right down to the wooden forks. The team are passionate about simple food using the best ingredients including free range meat and locally sourced salmon.
Hot tip: The Chicken Katsu salad with sesame sauce is a must try.
Shanghai Street Dumplings
Shanghai Street Dumplings sets the scene for dumpling houses in Christchurch! The eatery has an upmarket street feel with decorative Chinese lanterns and colourful propaganda style posters. The menu offers a delicious range of Shanghai-inspired street food from dumplings and steamed buns, to rice, noodle and soup dishes. How good!
Our pick: Try their Siu Mai - packed with pork, prawn, shiitake mushrooms, ginger and scallions.

The China Kitchen
Hailed by locals as the best dumplings in town, The China Kitchen is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a casual lunch. Free from MSG and made fresh daily, the dumplings are generous and are packed full of flavour. The half-mixed dumplings are well suited to those who have trouble choosing!

Pot Sticker Dumpling Bar
Hands down a city favourite, if you haven’t sampled Potsticker's handmade creations yet, you’re missing out! Not only is everything made on-site right in front of your eyes, this pocket has a seriously cool urban vibe with exposed brick walls and red lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Next to the Dux on Poplar Lane, it’s an ideal location for after work drinks and dinner, or for a weekend catch up with friends.
Hot tip: Be sure to order a signature cocktail to go with your dumplings.
Eightgrains
Eightgrains is a wee store located in Little High. Combining Taiwanese, Sichuan and Shanghainese flavours. Their dumplings have become a must try! You pick if you want them steamed, fried or mixed flavours. Based off traditional family recipes and all hand-made in Christchurch by the owners mum Angie.
Top pick: Be sure to order some Sichuan Spicy Dan Dan Noodles to go with your dumplings.
Midnight Shanghai
Midnight Shanghai is a modern Chinese Dim Sum restaurant and karaoke bar located in the heart of the CBD at Riverside Market. Featuring Trust the Chef's menus, handmade Shumai, wontons and dumplings. Paired perfectly with handcrafted cocktails for after work!
