Prof. Alex Tan
Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Canterbury, Alex Tan, continues to make remarkable contributions to research in parties and elections, political economy, Taiwan and Asian politics, and international relations of the Asia-Pacific.
Tan has established himself as a thought leader in his field, contributing to his role as the editor of Frontiers in Political Economy and as an editorial board member of eight international academic journals such as Political Science, Journal of Asian Security and International Affairs and Journal of Electoral Studies.
He is also an Honorary Professor of the NZ Defence Force Command and Staff College, an Associate Director of the NZ Contemporary China Research Centre, a Fellow of the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies (Dallas, USA), and a University Chair Professor of Political Science (adjunct) at National Chengchi University (Taiwan).
Alex has been honoured with numerous teaching awards, showcasing his deep passion for his work. He understands the benefits of hosting conferences, the opportunities they create for early career academics, and the lasting impact they can have for Ōtautahi Christchurch, the city he proudly calls home.
