Screen CanterburyNZ is excited to announce their new podcast, All Things Screen. The eight-episode season will feature interviews with exceptional screen professionals including filmmakers, TV creators, and cutting-edge game developers. Although aimed primarily to appeal to those working in screen industry, the power of its stories would be enjoyed by any podcast fan.
Host and industry expert Kim Georgine sits down with directors, producers, writers, and narrative designers to hear their personal stories as well as their best tips and tricks for a successful career in the industry.
All Things Screen kicks off in the heart of Christchurch with local children’s TV Producer Janine-Morrell Gunn. As the driving force behind What Now, Brainbusters, and Darwin and Newts plus many more, she was made an ONZM and a television legend at the NZTV Awards in 2022. Janine talks about being a woman starting out in TV in the 80s, her passion for putting tamariki front and centre and why it’s time to slow down her long career.
Kim says it made sense to launch with a local legend who has done so much for the industry and whānau across Aotearoa.
“Janine is an incredible storyteller and she paved the way for many women working in the industry to be seen and heard. Until you sit down and hear her story, you don’t realise how many risks she took to get where she is today. Plus she’s a natural advocate for Ōtautahi and Canterbury – it’s an ideal one to kick off the season.”
And it’s an impressive episode list. Producer/Director/Writer David White tells why his grandmother made him the storyteller he is today. He has recently had phenomenal success with his latest TV series Far North starring Robyn Malcolm and Temuera Morrison – it is the most watched show on ThreeNow. Ever. And that includes its international titles. David’s confidence is a noticeable contrast to his humble honesty.

Head of Screen CanterburyNZ Petrina D’Rozario says it’s a very exciting project and a type of media that is being tested by SCNZ to reach more people.

All Things Screen is launching today with episode two due to go live mid-January.
